Lake Retba

LAKE RETBA

Lake Retba or Lac Rose lies north of the Cap Vert peninsula of Senegal, north east of Dakar (Africa). Depending on the time of day, the lake changes colour (purple to pink). The colouring of the water is caused by one bacteria that lives in the lakes with high salinity. The color is particularly visible during the dry season.
The lake is also known for its high salt content, which, like that of the Dead Sea, allows people to float easily. The lake is often the finishing point of the Dakar Rally.
Many salt collectors they protect their skin with a natural butter (karité ).
